Mikael Stavöstrand’s Mitek label unearthed a fine example of microscopic break beats, glitch dub and warm melodies. Gentle washes of discordant sounds lap against melancholic moods and brittle rhythms. Aphex Twin’s "Selected Ambient Works" meets Pole, Gridlock and Carsten Nicolai. A real, nice and dry beat, swirling distortions, glitch squeaks and fragmented electronics form a mosaic that in the end lulls and grooves splendidly. It’s the minimalism and detachedness of the sounds and structure that appeal the most. Each added or subtracted element is enhancing the sound profoundly. Instead of a multi-layered sound overkill, the subtleties gain importance. A great release transforming abstract sounds into highly emotional soundtracks with club appeal. Something for "small sounds" connoisseurs among the dance floor head nodders.
